day 8 Malta

OK, Kate said no to severe winds and destructive thunderstorms so with sanity in mind we are listening to it from the comfort of our warm room. The boys appreciate their mother. At least we won't break our tent like we did with our UTah adventure when the same happened and flattened our tent. It is a great storm and the 25 MPH winds have certainly gusted beyond that. Boys remain amazing, we strike out, with Ian in the lead, me following, and then Kate and Colin with all of us keeping a reasonable pace as we shift weights accordingly. My problem is that Ian and Colin take the most weight. Next time, Kate and I will take the tandem. Boys are learning perserverance, responsibility, making do. All good attributes. Coming off as planned, more mosquitos then bargained for, thanks Kelly Ann and Neil for the reminders. We hear tomorrow they really show. I have recollection of them and it is not pleasant but they dont bother me as much. Storm is all over us as I write, still relatively dry but I trust that will change shortly. Lights flickering, better finish now or won't be able to post.

  1. Showing an inordinate amount of common sense is not a McCarthy trait. Amazingly, you passed the test on your ride to Malta. You shortened your day and escaped the storm and mosquitos via getting a room. Perhaps there is hope for the McCarthy name.

Driving back from Oregon yesterday I ran into (not literally) a group of 26 cyclists going from Seattle to Washington DC. They are doing around 85 miles a day. Today is an off day and they are staying at GU. They will get to enjoy Hoopfest today and Ironman tomorrow.

You wimps, letting a little headwind stop ya'. We were in Wolf Point after eight days.
