Day 29
Sorry I have been out of touch for a little while. Canada did not allow for us to blog, so I will try to quickly update everyone. First day we took a ferry across, and started biking. We hit head winds to start out, but we eventually hit a tail wind, ending the day at Port Stanley. Leaving Port Stanley, we struck out again, and once again got stopped for a interview. We ended the day with another 2 100 mile days in Canada, in Dunnsville. Today, with 111 miles, we end in Medina outside of Niagara falls. So we are back in the states and looking for the Harry Potter movie that is upcoming

ReplyDeleteGood God,they are worse off than I thought!! Scientists have long studied the effects of stress oand deprivation on both humans and on rats. Indeed there have been lessons gleaned from the aftermath of such anxiety-producing tragedies as the Bataan Death March and being subjected to hours of Sara Palin's rants. Viktor Frankl wrote an excellent book, "Mans Search For Meaning" about his years as a prisoner in a Nazi concentration camp. BF Skinner shocked and starved rats in the name of science to discover the THREE STAGES OF STRESS AND EXHAUSTION.
ReplyDeleteStage 1 - Despair and hopelessness. Psychologists have learned that these characteristics become particularly acute when an end to suffering cannot be found. Our riders still have no map and no idea if their journey will ever end. And if it does end will it end in Fresno, Miami Beach or even back in Fargo!!
Stage Two - Severe Depression - When their daily routine becomes painful and monotonous. How many times have you heard our riders speak of "another interview, broken spokes, flat tires, headwind etc. Seldom do we hear of Splash Downs, four star restaurants and even laundromats.
Final Level of Sanity - Losing touch of reality. Now, folks, I am no Sigmund Freud but even I can observe that our friends are no longer rational and definitely cannot ponder things meaningfully. Their ability to think clearly and rationally has left them, never to return. As confirmation of these facts I argue that some may fault the new math programs in the public schools but I say it is more than this. I am sure you noticed that Colin went from "Day 26 to Day 29 in a mere 48 hours. If losing a full day is an act of a rational person lock me up in a looney bin. And so the soap opera continues
