Day 23 and 24
We are alive, tired but doing well. Day 23 was long (heat, another broken spoke, a sudden down pour of rain for 25 miles etc.) but we did end the day in a hotel! I am the one who seems to appreciate hotel the most thus the exclamation point. Unfortunately in the small town of Mio the hotel did not have wifi, thus no blog. On Day 24 our longest day yet (127 miles): My husband has done an amazing job maneuvering us though the more heavily populated areas (Bay City) and once again fixed flats, this one Ian’s. We struggled with just where to stay last night. After checking out the two hotel options in the small town of Caro at 7 pm, we discovered no vacancies. Who said they could have a baseball tournament in Caro? Thus a quick trip to the store to buy dinner, and another 10 miles bike ride to a camp site outside of town. The camp site we came upon belonged in Chevy Chase Vacation movie. There was a stage with karaoke happening, putt-putt golf, pool, Christmas lights, and jovial people roaming and visiting. Ian and I turned to each other and started laughing. John in his adventuresome way said, “This is great!” Colin was not humored. All in all, we found there to be a quieter primitive camp site on the periphery and we had entertainment out our back door. Too tired to join in we set up our tents, eat and were asleep by 10 pm.
