day 5 I think

We are looking forward to turning our raincoats in for sun screen tomorrow. As I type this my fingers are a bit chilled in East Glacier. the park is still very much snowbound and we had to take the regular highway to get here as opposed to the Going to the Sun road. Having done that previously, we are all content skirting the southern edge of the park. Amazing how within 10 miles of the Divide, all is changed from a vegetation perspective, we will be ready for more of the same tomorrow with mtns behind us for a while. Tomorrow, likely to get an early start and shoot for a longer day. Today at 85 seemed easy, at least that is what the kids are saying. All goes well at this time without the requisite equipment failures, etc. Kids are troopers, maintaining a pace of about 14 miles and hour while riding. Butts were sore yesterday though I heard no complaints today. too cool for after dinner frisbee so all are holed up in tents but me.
Per my recollection of when I have done this before, the best part is the people along the way tend to be wonderful. Folks inviting us in and making us feel very much at home. I remember being reinvigorated by the genuine goodness of folks and this rings true again. Great back roads so far with minimal competetion with cars. that all changes now. See if I can roust the boys to post.

  1. what???? you didn't ride the going to the sun road in the snow? what a bunch of whimps!!! ;-) real bikers carry their bikes up snow fields in order to reach a spectacular summit.
